Atlas of the European Bees: genus
Tarsalia
First on line 5.IX.2014
This first version includes all available data on this very rare genus. The main source is Warncke (1979). This authors considered Tarsalia as a subgenus of Ancyla. Baker (1998) and Michener (2007) advocated the separation of these taxa with a genus level. We follow here the Michener's classification.
Thanks for Sam Droege, Pietro Nielo and Gideon Pisanty for the splendid pictures of these rare animals.

Tarsalia ancyliformis
Popov, 1935
= Ancyla (Tarsalia) ancyliformis mediterranea (Pittioni, 1950)
It includes two subspecies:
- ssp. ancyliformis, from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tadjikistan.
- ssp. mediterranea Pittioni, 1950, known from Cyprus and Sardinia (Warncke, 1979) and from Anatolia (J. Straka, com. pers.)
As foraging plants, Popov (1967) cites Alhagi kirgisorum, Eryngium coeruleum, Centaurea soltitialis, Centaurea squarrosa, Capparis sp. (in Central Asia).
G. Pisanty (Discoverlife) gives Centaurea verutrum as foraging plant (in Israel). P. Niolo (Flickr) made pictures on Carlina sp. (Sardinia).
