Bombus (Melanobombus) alagesianus
Reinig, 1930
Auteurs(s) : Pierre Rasmont, A. Murat Aytekin, Osman Kaftanoğlu & Didier Flagothier
B. alagesianus belongs to the group of Bombus keriensis Morawitz (Females with hind basitarsus densely covered with short, feathery, light-coloured hairs). All the species of this group live in steppic surroundings, at the higher stages of the Central Asia mountains.
In the West-Palaearctic region, Bombus alagesianus is restricted to Anatolia, Transcaucasia, Caucasus and N. Iran. As it lives in remote places of high mountains, rather few specimens have ever been collected. Outside the West-Palaearctic region, B. alagesianus is found in the mountains of Mongolia (ssp. mongolicus) and in the Alai and the Pamir (ssp. pamirus).
For Anatolia, Özbek (1998) mentions altitudes from 1800 to 3000 m. Rasmont & Flagothier (1996) observed 158 specimens between 2200 and 3000 m, among which 80% between 2500 and 3000m.
Bombus alagesianus lives at the alpine stage, on steppes with a very short vegetation and névés persisting until mid summer.
According to Rasmont & Flagothier (1996), Bombus alagesianus is the commonest species at the alpine stage (2500 to 4000 m), together with – in order of decreasing abundance – B. melanurus, B. handlirschianus, B. incertus, B. armeniacus, B. pomorum, B. erzurumensis, B. cryptarum, B. persicus and 25 other species.
Özbek (1983, 1990, 1998) mentions 53 visited flower species, without indication of preferences. However, the material of Özbek would need revision.
Rasmont & Flagothier (1996) (with some new original data) list : Campanula cf. tridentata Schreber (46), Jurinella moschus (Habl.) Bobrov (28), Trifolium repens L. (16), Astragalus sect. onobrychoidei (10), Hedysarum hedysaroides (L.) Schinz. & Thell. (7), Cirsium cf. obvallatum (Bieb.) Bieb. (6), Thymus cf. nigricus Klokov & Des.-Shost. (6), Astragalus sp. (5), Centaurea sp. (2), cf. Minuartia sp. (2), Stachys cf. balansae Boiss. & Kotschy (2), Trifolium cf. repens L. (2), Trifolium rytidosemium Boiss. & Hoh. (2), Carduus sp. (1), Nepeta fissa C.A. Meyer (1), Pedicularis pontica Boiss. (1), Symphytum asperum Lepechin (1). This list includes a great many of the flower species found in this mountains stage. Some flowers, however, seem to be avoided : whereas Lallemantia canescens (L.) Fisch. and Nepeta fissa C.A. Meyer are quite common and well visited by many other bumblebees, they are never by B. alagesianus.

Bobrov (28), Trifolium repens L. (16), Astragalus sect. onobrychoidei (10), Hedysarum hedysaroides (L.) Schinz. & Thell. (7), Cirsium cf. obvallatum (Bieb.) Bieb. (6), Thymus cf. nigricus Klokov & Des.-Shost. (6), Astragalus sp. (5), Centaurea sp. (2), cf. Minuartia sp. (2), Stachys cf. balansae Boiss. & Kotschy (2), Trifolium cf. repens L. (2), Trifolium rytidosemium Boiss. & Hoh. (2), Carduus sp. (1), Nepeta fissa C.A. Meyer (1), Pedicularis pontica Boiss. (1), Symphytum asperum Lepechin (1).

Bobrov (28), Trifolium repens L. (16), Astragalus sect. onobrychoidei (10), Hedysarum hedysaroides (L.) Schinz. & Thell. (7), Cirsium cf. obvallatum (Bieb.) Bieb. (6), Thymus cf. nigricus Klokov & Des.-Shost. (6), Astragalus sp. (5), Centaurea sp. (2), cf. Minuartia sp. (2), Stachys cf. balansae Boiss. & Kotschy (2), Trifolium cf. repens L. (2), Trifolium rytidosemium Boiss. & Hoh. (2), Carduus sp. (1), Nepeta fissa C.A. Meyer (1), Pedicularis pontica Boiss. (1), Symphytum asperum Lepechin (1). Bazı çiçeklerin ise gözardı edildiği görülmektedir. Örneğin Lallemantia canescens (L.) Fisch. ve Nepeta fissa C.A.Meyer sık rastlanan ve diğer bombus arıları tarafından ziyaret edilen bitkiler olmalarına karşın üzerlerinde hiç B. alagesianus gözlenmemiştir.
