CFF
Here are the main features of the CFF program :
- CFF runs under MS-DOS. It is an important feature since it means that it is an "old-fashioned" software. However, it still runs under Windows 98 or XP (Vista has not been tested till now). There is no display problem with the vast majority of current graphic cards but some cheap graphic cards don't allow CFF to be launched properly.
- CFF is NOT a GIS, it is just intended to represent distribution points on maps. You have to options to make maps:
- to load exising and preconfigured "background maps" and to overlay your distribution(s) file(s) onto
- to build your own maps by loading layers. You can chose a variety of settings (colors, line thickness, ...). You can zoom on or zoom out and then add your distribution(s) file(s) onto the map
- CFF does not allow to print directly the maps but to produce Encapsulated PostScript files (EPS). These EPS files can be printed or exported into other image formats thanks to a programs like GsView, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
- You can choose the map projection : Lambert conic, Stereographic, Mercator, Plate Carrée, Miller Equirectangular, BSAM (Bolshoi Sovietsky Atlas Mira), Gall, Generalized cylindrical, Sinusoidal and orthographic (satellite like)
- Constant display of mouse pointer coordinates (degress, grades, UTM)
- Distribution display according to single presence, collecting period or number of specimens or data (distribution files in ascii mode can be created and edited thanks to cffedit or digitized directly on screen)
- Batch printing of PostScript files
- Boundaries digitizing with mouse
- Legend insertable into the map
